Poetry 2018 Longlist, Shishir Marathey

Tourist

I’m just a tourist in the city of this strange thoughts
A place without hope where my philanthropic brain rots
Waking up to grief and pain sleeping in a stained coffin
People lacking smartness because living’s not a paid job
All the emotions vanished now wickedness is way common
This world is too beautiful but pretty things can’t change all
Following the foot prints, walking on bridges made of dead lost
Dreams, so every decision that’s made wrong is a ticket to the hell y’all
Place full of imbecile minds, idiotic views dude
Internet is an alchemist, media is voodoo
Surrounded by broken dreams and disconsolate boohoos
Government is a mad bull loose in a pasture
Wheel should be moving forward they’re moving it backwards
People are slaves to the lies the government is feeding them
Only freedom that the slaves get is to choose their master
They’re hoping for a big house and a perfect way of life
But they’re roaming with a big mouth and corrupted state of mind
Don’t want to work hard, easy money is the purpose day and night
And they wonder why the snugness fades from sight
Relations are insignificant, money’s what they kill for
Egocentric attitude, everybody’s filth swarmed
They say you write your own life, every book is a grimoire
This is habitat of the demons, land of the sinners
All the madness and evilness masked with a grin and
Rashness and meanness is true attribute of people
And every man’s in agreement with absence of feelings
A stone labelled as heart is placed in the chest cavity
The dome’s scary and dark with messed up mentality
Looking at the future through the lense of evolution, less clarity
It is evident this questionable revolution ends tragically
I’m just a tourist who is stuck in this strange spot
Where pain, misery and suffering is self-brought
Where people always expecting something that they ain’t got
Loyalty, honesty, forgiveness and grace is lost
