A Kite
Far away,
On a moonlit night,
There fell upon the river
A high flying kite.
So magnificent
And so bright,
When seen in the morn,
Brought people delight.
No one knew
From whence it came,
But they knew for sure,
It wasn’t anyone’s game.
For it showed
Two lovers young,
Each of whom
To the other clung.
On their faces
Was a glow,
From love or pain,
Was for naught to know.
A child so excited,
As if on cue,
Caught it at the bank,
Behind it the words, ‘I love you’.
Far away,
On a moonlit night,
Mourned a mother
Her child’s plight.
