Poetry 2013 Shortlist, Nidhi Khurana

When Love Arrived

Sun splintered into gold flakes
on the oceanic bosom
the golden water came running to me
we hugged
I blushed gold all over
Love had arrived...
Stars, giftwrapped in moonlight
came twinkling at my doorstep
whispering the silvern fairy tales
I listened
I blushed silver all over
Love had arrived...
Leaves,  with a sheen of rain
rode atop a merry branch into my window
we touched
I blushed green all over
Love had arrived...
Sky, dimpled with dark clouds
beckoned me to the horizon
we kissed
I blushed blue all over
Love had arrived...
Mud of the swamp, sipping rain with the chattering toads
leeched on to my skin
I smelled
I blushed earth all over
Love had arrived...
The red dahlias, bejewelled with rainbow drops
winked at me, shaking 'No' to the drones
I obliged
and carry the bunch to you
I blush red all over
Love has arrived...
