Poetry 2012 Longlist, Shailee Vyas

The Poem

It was in those locks
That his heart first faced the blocks
It’s with those eyes piercing and dark
That he saw his attraction becoming stark

It wasn’t what she read,
But the gesture instead
That caused the ignition
And led him into her prison

Within her mysteries
She had tagged along some miseries
He was not to know them now
But they were soon to surface and how

But for him what mattered was today
He had met his life line no other day
She had held him with her gaze
He had held her for the chase

Both were high on spirits
And listing each other’s merits
They both indeed knew it then
That they would marry and when
